te Pa Oke hits James Suckling's Top 100 Wines of New Zealand!
We are absolutely over the moon to share that our te Pa 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Oke has been featured in the Top 100 Wines of New Zealand list from James Suckling (one of the wine world's most influential reviewers).
This is an incredible wine that has consistently seen critical acclaim. It is a unique and alluring style of Sauvignon Blanc, aged in French oak barrels for 11 months, creating a smoky, oaky, rich expression, with refreshing acidity on the palate, and a wonderful sense of integrated oak and balance throughout.
Check out the stunning 93 point review and beautiful tasting note below:
"Complex aromas of passion-fruit curd, lemon balm, orange blossoms and spiced poached quince on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with tension and acidity, giving notes of red-apple skin, puff pastry and flint. Nicely balanced and textural from oak fermentation. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
This is a fantastic result for one of our flagship wines, and is the second time the Oke has been featured on James Suckling's Top 100 Wines of New Zealand list.
About the winemaking:
The fruit for our te Pa 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Oke was hand-harvested and whole bunch pressed to give us some beautiful pristine juice to work with. This juice was dropped down, without settling to 320 L French oak cigars for fermentation with a mix of indigenous and non-saccharomyces yeast.
The cigar shaped barrels were chosen as they increase the surface area of the lees, which helps to build weight and texture.
The wine was left un-sulphured on gross lees over the winter. After nine months of maturation, a selection of the best barrels was then blended, finished, and bottled as our 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Oke.
